Frequently asked questions
How does splitting work?
A group is a lasting circle of friends. A plan is one event inside it, like a trip, a dinner or an asado, with its own balances. Add an expense, choose who paid and who shares it, and Kwits updates everyone's balance. You can split equally, by shares, by percentage, by exact amount, or by item from a scanned receipt. Kwits also shows the fewest payments that settle the plan.
How are leftover cents handled?
Money is stored in whole minor units (cents), never decimals, so there are no drifting totals. When a bill does not divide evenly, the leftover cents go one at a time to members in a fixed order (largest remainder first, ties by member ID). Every phone and the web use the same rule and show the same numbers. Currency conversions round half away from zero.
Which currencies can I use?
Each plan has a currency. If someone pays in another currency, Kwits converts it when you add the expense and locks that rate on the expense, so it never changes later. Rates come from a free daily feed and you can override the rate on any expense. If you prefer, switch a plan to mixed currencies and each currency keeps its own balance.
How do I join a plan?
Open the invite link or scan the QR code you were sent. You will be asked to sign in (about five seconds) and you land inside the plan. You can also do it from the web, without installing the app.
How does receipt scanning work?
On iPhone and Android, point the camera at a receipt and pan along it. Items appear as they are recognised, all on your device. Then everyone opens the receipt on their own phone (or the web) and taps what they had. Tax and tip are shared in proportion. The web can claim items but not scan.
Does Kwits move money?
No. Kwits records who owes whom. When you pay someone, by cash or transfer outside the app, mark it as paid. The other person sees it and can confirm or say they did not receive it.
Why is there a photo limit?
Photos are stored for you and your friends. Each plan can hold up to 10 photos on the free version. Delete a photo to free a slot. Adding expenses is never blocked by the photo limit.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Add and edit expenses with no signal; they sync automatically when you are back online. A small dot shows what has not synced yet. Signing in and joining by invite need a connection.
How do I report something or block someone?
Open the menu next to a comment, photo or expense and choose Report, or open a member and choose Block. We review reports within 24 hours. You can also email us.
How do I export or delete my data?
Export your data and delete your account in the app under Me, Settings. Deleting is also possible at /delete-account. Deleting your Kwits account does not cancel a subscription, so cancel that in the App Store or Google Play too.
